Ray was born in Oregon, WI on July 15 1904. He went to school in Oregon then to Beloit College where he played basketball. Ray married Mary (Marie) Winkels on June 1st, 1936.

Ray’s main job throughout his life was as an electrician. He worked for Badger Electric and Gisholt Machine in Madison, WI. He also worked at Badger Ordinance outside of Baraboo, WI and Radford Ordinance in Radford, VA during the war years.

Ray became the village electrician in Mazomanie in about 1952. Ray was the person who initially built and placed the star on the Mazomanie Bluff. He was severely injured when he fell from an electrical pole and broke a hip. Later he went to work for the VA hospital in Madison.

Mary died on January 25th 1981 and Ray continued to live in Mazomanie. He passed away on September 19th 1990.
